OUR STORY
"In 2016, I set out to find the perfect espresso, determined to find it in India, a country I love and have imported from before. At a conference in Lugano I met Shyam Mariwala, owner of the Nandan Estate in Tamil Nadu, who told me he was the third generation to run this organic farm in the hills south of Nilgiri, at 4000 feet. On this unfenced estate, roamed by elephant and bison, he grows coffee, cardamom, black pepper and chilli.
His fabulous coffee picks up all of these flavours, as well as some acidity from the orange trees. I ordered an initial shipment, built a website and the coffee began to sell. In 2020, both Shyam and I handed over the running of our businesses to our daughters, and since then they have gone from strength to strength.
Both opened espresso bars, where the coffee was a great success, and we now sell large volumes through our website, espresso bar and a small number of restaurants and independent wholefood shops.
The café at the Design Museum is our second espresso bar, and we are very excited to bring our organic, single-estate coffee to a new audience."
