The Designers in Residence programme at the Design Museum is a core part of the museum's activity, and exists to provide emerging designers, across any discipline, with time and space away from their regular environment to reflect, research and consider new ways of developing their practice.

This year the Design Museum opened the doors to its new home in Kensington. The Designers in Residence of 2016 will join the museum on this journey. Through a focussed and rigorous proposal, the museum asked designers to submit creative responses to this year’s theme OPEN.

about the residents
Alix Bizet
Alix Bizet’s interdisciplinary practice combines theory, philosophy and psychology of human sciences with an interest in human behaviour and the environment. By re-appropriating textile techniques she explores hair as a material and medium through which to explore cultural diversity.
Clementine Blakemore
Clementine Blakemore is an architectural designer, interested in the relationship between design, production and place. Her practice is focused on small-scale design/build projects, and she will continue to explore the potential in collaborative construction processes during the residency.
Andrea de Chirico
Andrea de Chirico role as a designer is interdisciplinary with a social and ecological awareness. His approach is collaborative, designing new production scenarios for everyday objects and revealing manufacturing networks and local suppliers in order to share an open production database.
