DESIGN MUSEUM ACADEMY Young people workshop

Design Camp: Skateboard Deck Making for 11 to 14 year olds

In this fun workshop, learn about the unique skill of deck pressing using the vacuum press – a hands on experience designing, decorating and making a skateboard deck to keep.

What to expect

On this one-day course, two team members from SkatetotheMAX will demonstrate and explain the board-building process, followed by a hands-on experience of preparing and pressing two skateboards in smaller groups. In the afternoon, you will then decorate a skateboard deck to take home.

You will learn:

• How to vacuum press Canadian Maple veneers to form a skateboard.

• How to shape a skateboard using hand tools.

• Decorative skills, spray painting, drawing and air brushing.

• Safety awareness when skateboarding.

This workshop includes same-day entrance to our Skateboard exhibition.

Please note that all equipment, materials and light refreshments will be provided for the duration of the session, but you must bring a packed lunch.
